Dental Benefits, Preexisting Dental

I live in New Jersey and have really bad teeth.  I did not take care of my teeth the way I should have in the past due to using drugs.  I been drug free now for over three years but my teeth need a lot of work.  I am not sure where to start getting dental insurance since people are telling me that I will not be able to get dental insurance with all the preexisting dental needs I have. I just want to start looking as good as I am now living my life can you help
