What would be the best individual dental plan for me to get
I am in my first year of college and I am looking for dental insurance. I never had a plan with my parents though they always paid my dental bills. Since my parents are paying for my schooling I do not want them to also continue having to pay for my dental care.
I work part time but my emplyer does not offer any insurance at all for part time workers. I have looked on line for dental insurance I just not sure what is the best plan type to get. Is PPOs better then HMOs? I was told once that they are but I am not sure why. The cost more so I guessing the most cover for more. Can you advise.

PPO dental plans are good if you want to stay with a dentist that is not a provider of any HMO plan. HMO plan are good if you want to have a more affordable dental insurance plan.
Review both choices and see which one you like. I would not worry so much about what other people tell you to get. You are in college now so choosing the right plan for yourself is important.

With dental insurance it is really not about cost. Cost does not make one plan better then another. It is about coverages and limitations.
HMO are nice in that they are low cost plan and the offer good over all dental care. Down side may be that you have to choose a dentist in the network. Some HMO dental plan will not cover you to see specialist.
PPO dental insurance plan are more costly but will let you go to that dentist that is not a provider of any dental insurance plans. To many choosing their own dentist or going out side the network of provider is important. However down side may be the waiting periods that they normally have.
Read each plan see how they work and choose the best plan the fits your over all dental needs

For a part time college kid a dental HMO or dental discount plan will more then likely fix your budget better. I say look a those types of dental plan first.
