Dental insurance for braces on my ten year old
My son is going on ten and my general dentist is advise me to talk to an orthodontic dentist because he thinks my son will need to go into braces. The story is too long to get into but I am sure my general dentist is correct.
My problem is after talking to my dental insurance company I found out that they will only pay$300.00 a year up to a $1000.00 life time maxium towards the cost of braces. This does not seem very good at all to me but it what I get for free from work.
Is there anything else I can get to help me off set the cost of putting my son into braces?

Look into getting a dental discount plan and using that with your current insurance plan. On a discount plan you will get at least the 20 percent off the cost of braces and then you still have the $1000.00 from your current dental plan.

You may just want to buy a better dental insurance plan that will offer you more coverages for braces. HMOs dental insurance plans are good for that normally.
However I do not think you can combine them with your current dental plan. So if that is something you want to do make sure the dentist in the plan will be able to combine plans.

Since you have some time still I would try to just find a dental plan that will offer you better coverages then what you are currently getting.
$1000 for braces does not seem like much when I seen HMOs dental plans that your total cost for braces is only between $1500-$2000.
