Dental insurance for braces on a low income family
Please help. My daughter could really use braces. And even though both my husband and I work we just can not afford the extra cost for her to have braces. We have dental insurance with my husband job but it does not pay out anything for the cost of braces, since my daughter has TMJ.
TMJ being the problem and why they will not pay for braces. I do not want my daughter to have to deal with it. I also hear the problem will only get harder to correct as she gets older. Can you offer us some advise please.

I would think about picking up a dental discount plan in your case. A discount dental plan will give you the discounted saving off any type of braces for any reason. It runs around a 20 percent saving.
Then you shop out the orthodontic dentist listed in the plans date base. See if you can find on that will offer a free consult. That will help you know your cost with the plan saving.
One more thing work a payment plan that you can afford. The better your credit the best chance to get a lower monthly payment but talk things over at the dental office.

See about a dental school. I took my son to a dental school and braces where half the cost being quoted to me by orthodontic dentist that were in my area. Something like that may help you out.

TMJ is a hard issue because many dental insurance plans will not cover for brace if it is a TMJ issue. Dental discount plan do not have an issue with TMJ so you could get the saving on them.
However really talk to the orthodontic in question. My son had to have braces because of some crooked teeth issues. However because of the crooked teeth he got TMJ as well. So at first my insurance company was saying the would not cover for my son braces either.
Until I made it clear the braces was not for the TMJ but was for straitening out his teeth which is covered under the plan. Strange enough as soon as my son’s teeth were straiten he did not have as much of the TMJ issues any more.
